Day 141-146: Settling in

M has been gone this week so I have been redecorating!  Check my beautiful new bed.  The way my space looks is so important to me.  I love a clean, cozy home.  I love beautiful patterns, colors, fabrics and the way they can change the feel of a room.  I have to have my space beautiful in order to be happy, to relax, to feel at home.

It was a good week at work for the most part.  There are always moments when I turn to the job section of Craigslist to get me through my day.  Knowing that I could quit at any time and get a new job always makes me feel a little more powerful.  Not that it would be that easy.  But whatever, it's my therapy and it works for me.  I might have only done that once this week though..so it was a good week.  I like the job, the work is good, the people are fabulous, but the hours are complete shit.  The hours take away my social life, my personal life, my time to do laundry.  I don't really know what to do about it.  I guess I just suck it up? At least I don't hate being there.  I just wish I wasn't there so much.  But when I am I get to enjoy people like Kelly, modeling the paper hat made by our GM, and Emanuel, our Benicio Del Toro lookalike who loves to wear my sunglasses when he works the patio, and Emily who surprised me with my favorite flowers, ranunculus, for no reason at all.

The restuarant I work at is located nextdoor to our sister bar and we get half off there.  Half off a bar tab is awesome.  And people in the Service Industry enjoy drinking, a lot. So there are lots of nights that the staff will get drinks after work and Friday night I joined them.  I had so much fun, it was a dysfunctional crazy little group of the best people in New York City.  Emanuel, the washed up former ladies man, Romanian alcoholic, charming and brash.  Jack, the tiny 5 foot adorable ball of energy who also shares my deep love for Jay Z, Lil Wayne, and Eminem and is interning as a counselor in a juvenile detention facility. Ralph, the mysterious sarchastic Brazilian DJ who is finally starting to smile.  Tomo, the goofy new guy, Croatian and eagerly friendly.  Laura, the bartender with the tattoos and gauged ears who has an infectious loud laugh and is known for her catchphrase "Hey Y'all!" And Bernie, the middle-aged Phillipino busser, the friendliest, nicest, kindest person whose favorite activities are golf and drinking.  I love them.

Also this week my family had what we call a Moon Moment. My mom, who I have always loved immensely but am just starting to realize how adorable she is, started the Moon Moment thing when she would text us because the moon was looking particularly impressive. This soon involved picture messaging and since we have iphones now, this week we shared photos on the same conversation thread. Mom sent hers, then Tanya, then me. We had a coast to coast moon moment and Kristen and I talked about how cool it was that we were all looking at the same moon. It puts things in perspective and it feels pretty comforting to be able to share those things.
