As exciting and great New York City has been to me these past few months, I have found myself getting terribly homesick. I miss the people, obviously, the most. My family, friends, and dogs. I miss familiar faces and inside jokes and people who know my stories and my past. I miss the open space. I have never been a fan of rain or cloudy days. In that sense, Arizona was really perfect weather for me. I cannot believe how I used to take sunny days for granted. Anyway, I was really missing nature and a hometown feeling. And Morris is amazing so he took me to Cold Spring, a little village on the Hudson River. It was a really cute, great small town.
I was glad to see "naturey" people on the train and getting off at our stop. Cold Spring has a lot of hiking trails. We stopped in to a little restaurant called Foundry Cafe and I had a root beer and omelet with amazing home fries. The ladies there were awesome. A little small town crazy, and awesome. Afterwards we walked along Main Street and stopped into a couple antique stores. They were so great and had the coolest stuff, I had a great time walking through them with Morris. It is definitely one of my favorite hobbies.
We walked through a tunnel under the train tracks to get to the river, the Hudson River that is. We had a nice little walk when we happened upon a rock with red spray paint that we used to make it look like something bad happened to Morris, like a squirrel attack or something.
We walked through town a bit more, some some absolutely adorable houses, and made our way to a little trail that lead down to a "beach" area on the river. It was very nice down there and we had some cute visitors. There were three dogs that were playing near us, one that kept chasing sticks in the water and then came to soggily greet us.
Back in town we had hot chocolate at a cute place called Go Go Pops that makes delicious looking homemade ice cream pops. It was a bit too cold to partake but the hot chocolate and pecan brownie were very good.
On the way to the train to head home, we came a cross another antique store selling a "Mystery Bag" which surprisingly, Morris decided he had to buy. It was a load of crap but we got Cowboy Carl out of it.
It was a wonderful and much needed day.
I am currently reading The Diary of Anne Frank and this is an amazing excerpt I read this week:
The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely, or unhappy is to go outside somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, Nature, and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see peple happy, amidst the simple beauty of Nature. As long as this exists, and it ceratinly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances will be. And I firmly believe that Nature brings solace in all troubles.
