Day 21: fa la la la la la la la la

What a fantastic Saturday!
Morris and I woke up and went to the gym, on our walk there we bought protein bars and I totally felt like "that couple" but we weren't wearing matchy workout gear.

Alex and Morris did their boy gym thing lifting weights and chatting while I hit the treadmill hard. I was just going to warm up but it felt so good I just kept running and ended up going 4.2 miles ! I was so proud! 4 miles was my previous record a year ago when I was all into jogging. I also did some leg machines.

Afterwards we all had lunch at Sampan, a Chinese restaurant, and then M and I went to Sprint to get him a new phone. Oy. What a fiasco! That boy doesn't like spending and despite owning a Mac had some serious hatred for iPhones. I've been getting shit about my smartphone since I got here, despite all his inquiries about weather and restaurants and things he wants me to google. He spent forever looking at any phone that wasn't an iPhone while I waited patiently for the inevitable. He got the iPhone. He has spent a significant amount of time uploading apps, reading the news, and he just showed me his new background. It does come with consequences though because before he even slid his debit card he was already worried about the battery, which no one will deny dies pretty fast. When we walked out of the store he fretted about the higher likelihood of his fancy new phone getting stolen if he's in Peru, despite the fact that he has no travel plans to Peru. And this morning he said its awkwardly heavy and it's going to give him carpal tunnel. But he loves it.

I was so happy to see my friend Tyler last night. He's a fellow Arizonian, just moved here a week ago, and we met on St Marks Place for Chipotle. After that we walked all the way from there to Rockefeller Center. It was cold but bearable after we both bought gloves and it was a beautiful city walk. Rockefeller was crazy with tourists I assume, I feel like I fit in with them . Or maybe I feel good around tourists because they are the only people who know less about the city than me. Anyway, it was fabulous to see the gigantic tree and in such an awesome place. We kept walking towards Central Park after that and passed some absolutely breathtaking window displays at Bergdorf Goodman. It was my first Monique Lhuillier dress that I've ever seen in real life, I'm dying to go in the store. There was also a Marchesa that I recognized from magazines. The displays were so detailed, so intricate and imaginative. I felt like a little kid looking in a window of a candy shop.

Tyler and I made it to Wollman Rink in Central Park, a lot less crazy than Rockefeller Rink, and very scenic. It was great spending time in the city with a friend last night, especially seeing someone from home.

Morris came and met me after Tyler and I parted ways. We met for a movie and we saw The Artist, the new silent film. I thought it was really fantastic. We both agreed the plot wasn't very strong, not bad, but kind of simple and perhaps a bit sloppy at the end. However, it was extremely enjoyable and entertaining, there were some beautiful shots, beautiful costumes, the acting was great, there were some really interesting double meanings and undertones, and it was a fun glimpse into the 1920s and 1930s era. I would recommend it but I know it's not for everyone, but if you're a little interested then you should see it, it's a special movie.
